WHAT YOUR DOLLAR WILL BUY

For a coffee this will range between $5.50 – $7.
Going out for an evening meal will cost roughly NZD$35-$40 for main dinner course.

BANKING

New Zealand has 4 major banks and many smaller banks for currency exchange and cash withdrawal. We suggest you bring USD currency denominations to exchange. Cash machines (ATMs) are readily available. Most merchants accept debit cards and all major credit cards are Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.

CLIMATE

Likely temperatures will be low of 6 – 8 degrees Celsius, high 12 – 16 degrees Celsius, it may be wet.

WHAT TO WEAR IN APRIL/MAY

It will be getting cooler with possible rain… Wear appropriate clothing for late autumn, early winter. Moderately chilly with a cool breeze.

GETTING AROUND

Taxis and Ubers will be available in Rotorua, although all shops are withing walking distance of accommodation. There will also be volunteers with transportation helping too. Travelling around the rest of New Zealand, we suggest buses, flights with Air New Zealand or hire a vehicle.

DINING

All meals are provided at Congress, however there are plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance to visit.

SHOPPING

Rotorua is the tourist hub of New Zealand, there will be plenty of opportunity to shop for your souvenirs.

INTERNET AND CELLULAR

Free Wi-Fi at the hotel, you can also purchaser a pre-paid SIM card at most supermarkets or at the airport.

SAFETY

New Zealand is ranked one of the safest places to visit. However, we recommend you remain vigilant if walking at night as there may be one or two opportunists. In general Kiwi’s are friendly and greet everyone you meet on the street with a friendly smile and Hello, or Kia Ora… they will appreciate it and greet you kindly back.

DRINKING WATER

All water will be safe to drink… just don’t drink any thermal water from the thermal hot springs.

ELECTRICITY

All buildings are wired with 120V power.
Outlet adapters are available to purchase at local stores.
